Project Summary

(quick version)

In healthcare environments, furniture has to do more than look good. It has to handle daily traffic, be easy to clean, support families, and still feel welcoming—because waiting rooms set the tone before a patient ever sees a provider.

For this new building project, we helped furnish multiple zones, including waiting room lobbies, soft seating for adults and children, outdoor seating, plus the operational side of the building: private offices, task chairs, and workstations.

Samuel U. Rodgers’ new building needed furniture that could support both sides of the operation:

- patient-facing spaces that feel comfortable and welcoming

- staff work areas that are functional, ergonomic, and built for daily use

We guided selections across multiple areas so the facility felt cohesive, durable, and ready for real traffic from day one.

The Challenge

Healthcare spaces have unique requirements:

High traffic + durability

furniture needs to hold up to constant use

Clean-ability

materials must be easy to maintain without looking “clinical”

Different user needs

adults, children, staff—all need different comfort and function

Multiple zones

waiting areas, outdoor, offices, and workstation spaces must feel cohesive

Our Approach

1) Design for the patient experience (comfort + durability)

For waiting rooms and lobbies, we prioritized:

  • comfortable soft seating that still holds up
  • layouts that support families and varying group sizes
  • materials selected for cleanability and longevity

2) Include children’s seating intentionally

Kids’ areas can’t be an afterthought. We selected child-friendly seating that was:

  • durable and stable
  • easy to clean
  • appropriate scale for children
  • consistent with the overall look of the space

3) Extend the experience outdoors

Outdoor seating was selected to handle the realities of use and environment while still feeling welcoming and consistent with the facility.

4) Support staff with ergonomic, practical workspaces

For private offices, task chairs, and workstations, the focus was:

  • dependable ergonomic seating
  • durable work surfaces
  • a functional setup that supports day-to-day operations

The Solution

A cohesive furniture plan that furnished both the public-facing and staff-facing areas of the new building, including:

- waiting room and lobby soft seating (adult + children’s)
- outdoor seating
- private office furnishings
- task chairs and workstations

The result was a facility that feels welcoming for patients and functional for staff—without sacrificing durability.
